The RAF Museum in London says its Easter weekend of events marking the 100th birthday of the Royal Air Force drew more than 15,000 visitors.
On Foundation Day, April 1, the museum was among the first stops for the the RAF100 baton relay. The team will call at 100 locations in 100 days, culminating on July 10 with a centenary service at Westminster Abbey, and a mass flypast over the UK capital.
Maggie Appleton, the RAF Museum’s Chief Executive Officer, joined the RAF runners as they completed their opening leg at the Hendon site.
“It’s an absolute honour to be part of the RAF100 celebrations and commemorations and share in the first part of the RAF Baton Relay Team’s journey, ” she said.
“I’d like to thank all the visitors who came to the museum across the weekend and look forward to welcoming them all back at the end of June to enjoy our transformed site when we will have three new exciting exhibitions.”
The newly developed galleries will tell the RAF’s story, from its creation during the last months of the First World War, through to the Battle of Britain and WW2, and onwards to the present day, also looking ahead to the future contribution of the Royal Air Force.
