100 Years Ago Today: Germany invades Belgium; and Britain declares war on Germany

100 years ago today, on August 4th 1914, Germany invaded Belgium at 8.02am. Later that day, at 11pm Britain declared war on Germany.

The previous day, on August 3rd 1914, Belgium had rejected an ultimatum from Germany to allow its forces passage into France.

Germany had occupied Luxembourg on August 2nd.
