The BBC’s adaptation of Sebastian Faulks’ novel, ‘Birdsong’, attracted a peak share of the audience with 6 million viewers tuning in at 9pm on Sunday to watch the drama set in the battlefields of France during WW1. This equated to 23.3% of the total audience that night.
Success for WW1 dramas on the small screen is being matched by the cinema with Steven Spielberg’s ‘War Horse’ grossing 9.63 million in UK cinemas after ten days of play. According to indexing website BoxOfficeMojo, War Horse has grossed over $100,000,000 (as of 21/01/2012).
