Great War And Moving Image Conference

Date of publication: 20/11/2012

The Universities of Kent and Southampton are to hold a conference in association with the Imperial War Museum on 15-16th April, 2014. The conference seeks to explore visual representations of the Great War.

The two-day event will discuss the way genres have translated across media, as well as how moving images are feeding into the wider commemorative process. The conference is particularly focused on discussing circulation, distribution and representation of moving images.

Topics include the home front, combat filming, the colonial context, the European context, landscape and battlefield, the ‘other’ (ie. women, orphans), the wounded, disfigured and disabled, Battlefield tourism, cinematic culture and multi-national productions.

If you would like to find out more about the conference, visit the Univeristy of Kent’s School of History website here.

If you are interested in submitting a paper (deadling April 30th, 2013), you can find contact details on the press release for the conference here.
