The United Sates Congress passed a bill at the end of 2012 which would ensure the Centenary of the First World War was recognised, but fell short of erecting a monument to fallen Americans in the conflict, The Washington Times reports.
The Frank Buckles Act which was passed in the House of Representatives earlier in December, had promised this monument, but this was opposed in the Senate and the bill was amended. However, a ‘centennial commission’ will still be established, as promised in the original bill.
Lobbying continues for a memorial to be established.
