Date of publication: 14/01/2012The UK’s Imperial War Museum has suggested that its home-based partners, and some abroad where appropriate, should refrain from referring to the conflict of 1914-1918 as ‘World War One’.
It describes the phrase as being ‘mostly used in America’, and suggests instead the term ‘First World War’.
The museum also supports the use of the abbreviation ‘FWW’ for ‘the First World War’. It adds that this will aid consistency across its numerous projects.
