The local government in the state of Queensland, Australia, has launched a committee which will oversee commemorations planned for the Centenary of the Australia and New Zealand Corps (ANZAC) in 2014.
ANZAC was established during, and saw action in, the First World War.
Minister Assisting the Premier for Veterans Affairs Glen Elmes stated: “I’m looking to [the commemorations committee] for advice and leadership on commemoration activities to ensure that the contribution made by Queenslanders in all theatres of war is recognised with appropriate dignity and honour”.
