During the First World War, the English town of Folkestone was the main departure port for British and Commonwealth soldiers destined for the Western Front.
A local charity named Step Short has told Centenary News how it is working on a range of projects to mark both the town’s role and the Centenary of the First World War.
Among these is a dramatic memorial arch at the top of the road which most soldiers took to the waiting troopships, living history displays at historic sites and the exploration of First World War shipwrecks.
