What would have happened if Facebook existed during the First World War?

The Musée de la Grande Guerre at Meaux is considering the role Facebook would have played in the First World War had it existed at the time, in order to engage with a younger audience about the history of the conflict.

A fictional soldier, known as ‘Léon Vivien‘ was created on Facebook as part of the project. The project ran from April to May 2013.

The museum believes that ‘Léon Vivien’ allowed people to engage with the conflict via a relatable medium and to understand the experience of being a soldier in the First World War.
