More than one hundred collection points across France were visited by people in November 2013 as part of a project to collect material related to the First World War.
Europeana 1914-1918 launched the project in an effort to discover unpublished items such as letters held by individuals and families.
The project is currently visiting countries around Europe in search of objects and stories relating to the conflict in order to mark the Centenary.
The Archives de France, the French National Library, the Mission du Centenaire and Europeana 1914 -1918 held Family History Roadshows from the 9th – 16th November 2013.
Those who visited one of the collection points across the country were met by experts who helped to identify and photograph their documents, and to collect the individual family stories relating to them.
The documents were returned to contributors, with some choosing to donate them to the project or involved institution.
Europeana 1914-1918 is digitising the material – which will be made available online – with France’s “Great Collection” to be uploaded in the coming months.
