Malta’s Eurovision song entry commemorates First World War Centenary

Malta has selected a song which commemorates the Centenary of the First World War to represent it at the Eurovision Song Contest 2014.

The song, entitled Coming Home, is performed by the band Firelight and is dedicated to “those who never came home”.

Written and composed by lead singer Richard Edwards, the song’s official video includes a dramatisation of the experiences of different soldiers during the war.

Intersperesed in the video is footage of the band performing the song surrounded by large LED screens, which show archive footage of battles and fields of poppies.

Mr. Edwards also features as the main character in the dramatisation, which focuses on how soldiers serving missed their loved ones at home.

The 59th annual Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Copenhagen, Denmark, on the 8th May 2014.
