Pope Francis has marked the Centenary of the First World War with an appeal for peace in current conflicts.
Delivering his weekly blessing at the Vatican, the Pope said the war had caused millions of deaths and resulted in a most fragile peace after four long years.
He hoped that the mistakes of the past would not be repeated, calling for dialogue and negotiation in the Middle East, Iraq and Ukraine.
‘All is lost with war and nothing lost with peace,’ he told pilgrims gathered in St. Peter’s Square on July 27th 2014.
Pope Francis, head of the Roman Catholic Church, will pray for victims of all wars during a pilgrimage to Italy’s largest military memorial at Redipuglia in September 2014.
