The American state of Ohio is marking the Centennnial of the First World War with an exhibition of US recruitment posters at the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus.
America Mobilizes for War opened on July 28th 2014, the 100th anniversary of the Austro-Hungarian Empire’s declaration of war on Serbia.
It aims to highlight America’s involvement in the conflict and commemorate the war that ‘changed the trajectory of the 20th century and ultimately led to further global conflict 21 years later.’
The exhibition can be seen in the Rotunda of the Ohio Statehouse, home of the Midwest state’s government.
It’s been developed by the Capitol Square Review and Advisory Board (CSRAB) in conjunction with the United States World War One Centennial Commission and its Ohio working group.
William Carleton, CSRAB Executive Director, said: “The Ohio Statehouse is committed to the goal of the commission to educate citizens on the causes and outcomes of World War I.
“I must say, the current confrontations in Eastern Europe and the Middle East have roots in the First World War; today’s world was forged by the hammer of the Great War.”
‘America Mobilizes for War’ runs at the Ohio Statehouse until August 29th 2014. More details can be found here
