Bridge of Weir Memorial Society launches new website

The Bridge of Weir Memorial Society has launched a new website to tell the stories of the 72 young men whose names are commemorated on war memorials in their village in west Scotland.

The project began with an interest in 12 names on a memorial in the Freeland Church of Scotland. Nothing was known about these men – so a group of volunteers came together to try to find out more, and the early success in researching the Freeland Fallen inspired the society to extend the project.

Gordon Masterton, Chairman of the Bridge of Weir Memorial Society, told Centenary News,

“Since launching the site on Armistice Sunday we’re delighted that more relatives have already made themselves known to us, and provided new information. Memories of these young men of Bridge of Weir are coming to life again.”
