Six cities are to host the Tower of London Poppies in 2018, the last year of their UK tour marking the First World War Centenary.
Destinations for Wave and Weeping Window include Stoke-on-Trent, the heart of England’s potteries, where many of the ceramic poppies were made.
Journey’s end is at two Imperial War Museum sites – IWM London, the museum’s historic Lambeth Road home, and IWM North in Manchester, the striking building designed by Daniel Libeskind to resemble a shattered globe.
The final display venues, announced by UK Secretary of State for Culture Karen Bradley, are:
Hereford Cathedral
Weeping Window, 14 March – 29 April 2018
Fort Nelson, Portsmouth
Wave, 13 April – 24 June 2018
Carlisle Castle
Weeping Window, 23 May – 8 July 2018
Middleport Pottery, Stoke-on-Trent

With the end of the tour, Wave and Weeping Window will be presented to IWM’s permanent collections by 14-18 NOW, Britain’s First World War Centenary arts programme.
Culture Secretary Karen Bradley said: “I am delighted that the poppies will be preserved for future generations to act as a lasting memorial not only to those who lost their lives during the war but also to highlight how the country came together to commemorate the Centenary.”
Wave and Weeping Window were part of the Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red installation, created by Paul Cummins and Tom Piper for display at the Tower of London in 2014 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Great War.
Since then, 14-18 NOW has taken them to 13 locations in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, attracting more than three million visitors.
‘Wave’ is currently at the CWGC Plymouth Naval Memorial until November 19. ‘Weeping Window’ has just opened at the Ulster Museum, Belfast. For details see 14-18 NOW.
