A replica of an RAF aerobatic team jet, used by the Red Arrows, was stationed outside 10 Downing Street for a reception hosted by UK Prime Minister Theresa May to mark the 100th anniversary of the Royal Air Force.
Current and serving personnel attended the gathering – on 23 May 2018 – as well as the chiefs of Britain’s armed services.
The RAF was created during the final year of the First World War, with the merger of the army’s Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Naval Air Service.
Thanking the men and women of the RAF for their dedication, the Prime Minister said: “For one hundred years, the RAF has proved it is not only the first independent air force in the world, but the finest. It stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the Royal Navy, the Royal Marines and the Army in defending our nation and promoting our values.”
RAF Centenary events have been also taking in France to mark 100 years of bilateral cooperation. Two vintage WW1 aircraft were displayed at Les Invalides in Paris in May.
