This archive website contains the news stories and articles that were written for the First World War Centenary News website.
Centenary News provided independent, impartial and international coverage of the centenary and centennial of the First World War. The website was live from 2010 to 2018.
It had over 1.6m pageviews, over 1m visits, and about 845,000 visitors – from 225 countries. Hundreds of contemporaneous articles about centenary and centennial events were uploaded to the site, as well as features and book reviews.
Most of this content has now been migrated to this new Centenary News Archive website (which went live in April 2022). We hope this new site will be useful and interesting for anyone who would like to see how the First World War was remembered and commemorated between 2012 and 2018.
The original Centenary News website was run and written by volunteers. Its founder and first Editor was the TV journalist and media executive Nigel Dacre. In 2016, the former BBC News journalist Peter Alhadeff became Editor and Nigel became Executive Editor. The volunteer writers were based in many countries – including the UK, the United States, Canada, France, Germany, and Australia.
The original website and this archive site are managed by the UK media production company, Inclusive Digital. If you have any questions or enquiries about Centenary News, please contact us via theĀ Inclusive Digital Contact Page.
PLEASE NOTE THAT CONTENT, IMAGES AND PHOTOS ARE STILL BEING MIGRATED TO THIS NEW WEBSITE FROM THE OLD CENTENARY DATABASE.
