The Great War Project has been launched to develop and sustain WW1 heritage during and beyond the Centenary.
The aim of the project is to involve international and inter-regional governments and bodies to collaborate and sustain cultural diversity with the ‘inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage list-as landscapes of war memories- ‘considered by many to be one way to achieve this goal’.
In order for any landscape to be recognised as being of ‘Outstanding Universal Value’, it has to be ‘verified how it is perceived by diverse constituencies, and from different points of view’. As such the World Heritage Tourism Research Network (WHTRN) is now ‘studying the present meanings, values and perspectives related to WW1, in different countries and nations around the globe’.
