The Tynemouth WW1 Commemoration Project has been launched to coincide with the Centenary and raise local awarenesss about WW1.
In 1923, the former Borough of Tynemouth published a Roll of Honour naming the 1700 local residents that gave their lives in the Great War. Nearly a hundred years on, between 2014-18, Tynemouth has launched a commemoration project to remind locals of the town’s loss and to explore the impact of war on civilian life.
The project team want to conduct a large-scale research project to expand on the existing biographical details about all the names on the Roll of Honour and to then put the information onto a public database. There are also plans for a play, book and exhibition in time for the Centenary.
