Antwerp will recount the experiences of the Great War between 3rd and 5th of October as part of its Centenary events. Visitors will have a choice of activities based around the themes of historical narrative, avant-garde art and refugees.
The highlight will be the Belgian and Dutch armies building a pontoon across the River Scheldt, which will then become a platform for artistic and musical performances for the rest of the weekend. Visitors will be invited to cross the bridge for the other days of the commemorative activities.
Antwerp was considered a stronghold amidst Germany invasion, with major figures including King Albert fleeing there.
