‘The Advocates of Peace, 1899-1917’ conference, Paris

The International Society for First World War Studies has announced that the University of Paris-Est and the German Historical Institute will host a conference on “the downfall of peace” in the early twentieth century.

The period covered by the conference “shows that we mean to take into consideration the very first years of the twentieth century (starting in 1899, date of the first Hague Conference) and those of the ‘pre-war’ period but also the war years themselves”.

There are also plans to review research areas such as “judicial pacifism, attempts at peaceful resolution to conflicts through arbitration [and] development of international law”.

The organisers have also made a call for papers to be submitted for the conference.

The conference will take on the 15th – 17th January 2014.
