Art installation honours teenage war dead

The art installaion, ‘LAMBS: A tribute to the teenagers of Belper who fought and died in World War One’ was created by local artist Andy Mayers, and can currently be seen around the town of Belper in Deryshire.

From the artist: “In 1915, over 30 of the names on the Belper War Memorial were young men between the ages of 15 to 18 years. As a tribute, life sized images of local boys of the same age have been positioned around the historic Belper Mill complex.

“Images of local teenagers are used to represent their counterparts 100 years ago and illustrate how young these youths were when they enlisted and were sent to fight on the battlefield. By connecting with today’s generation we hope to highlight the horrors these young men endured.”

The installation was installed for the Belper Arts Festival.
