Military historian Peter Barton will discuss German perspectives of the Battle of the Somme on 18 January 2017 as part of a free lecture series organised by the Herts at War WW1 Centenary project in the UK.
Peter Barton is an authority on First World War history and battlefield archaeology.
In 2016, he wrote and presented a three part BBC documentary for the Centenary –‘The Somme: From Both sides of the Wire’ – sharing insights from his research into the German archives.
Dan Hill, of Herts at War, said: “We are delighted to welcome yet another globally renowned historian to the Herts at War series to help raise awareness of the Great War and to tell some of the lesser known history around the subject.
“To be able to offer this talk for free to the public and extend an invite to all who wish to attend is something that we are very pleased to be able to do”.
Peter Barton will speak at the University of Hertfordshire’s De Havilland Campus on Wednesday 18 January. Doors open from 7pm. Places are limited: For tickets, and details of more lectures coming up in 2017, see Herts at War/talks.
