Writer and poet Lucy London writes for Centenary News about her research project which focuses on female poets during the First World War.
Lucy London is leading an exciting new multi-strand international research project to commemorate the centenary of the 1914 – 1918 War.
“Female Poets of the First World War” and “Inspirational Women of World War One” seek to inform and educate people about the 1914 – 1918 War using poetry, photographs and biographical details in easily assimilated formats such as visual exhibitions, mobile displays, printed materials, poetry readings and multimedia applications.
By producing easy-to-read companion booklets and taking the exhibition to unusual locations (for instance The Ace Centre, Cross Street, Nelson, Lancashire BB9 7NN from 15th August to 3rd September 2013 – Entry Free), Lucy hopes to spread the word about Inspirational Women of World War One and bring their works and deeds to the attention of a whole new generation of people who may not previously have had much contact with, or interest in, art and literature.
This self-funded research project also aims to highlight previously unknown local writers and poets – as well as those who are better known on a national scale – and Lucy is also hoping to encourage people to produce their own poetry and works of art to commemorate the Great War.
