Publisher’s Description:
‘In 2014, the major art installation Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red by artist Paul Cummins and designer Tom Piper at the Tower of London captured the imagination of the public. Over the course of several months, 5 million visitors witnessed an army of volunteers plant 888,246 ceramic poppies in the moat surrounding the Tower of London, each one representing a British or colonial life lost at the front during the First World War.
Since 2015, 14-18 NOW, the UK’s arts programme for the First World War centenary, has presented the two key sculptural elements of the installation, Wave and Weeping Window, at many historic locations around the United Kingdom, ending in 2018 at IWM North and IWM London. These two iconic sculptures have been seen by over 4 million people.
This book features notes from artist Paul Cummins and designer Tom Piper, as well as a special foreword from HRH The Duke of Cambridge. The story of each tour venue is told by those who were there and brought to life by specially commissioned photography. Poppies: Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red is the only official publication to capture the journey of this landmark artwork.’
